Description: Sound (English), b&w, 27 min. Briefed in Washington by Assistant Secretary of Defense William Foster, a group of American newspaper editors sets out for Europe to judge the success of the Marshall Plan and to ascertain whether our NATO allies are doing their part in building a strong mutual defense against the potential threat from Moscow. They are reassured by what they see. In London, Anthony Eden and ex-Prime Minister Herbert Morrison explain that Britain now spends one-sixth of its budget on defense. In Norway, a steel mill rebuilt with ERP help runs full tilt to help the defense effort. And so on in Holland, France, Germany and Italy. Much of the footage is recognizable from other Marshall Plan films. See "STRENGTH FOR THE FREE WORLD series" for more information. Produced by the MSA Film Section, Paris, for MSA Washington. NARA ref. copy PPC 35mm, 3R.
