A roundup of 1951 May Day celebrations, contrasting the celebrations in Western Europe, run by the free trade unions, with the militarized celebration in Moscow, where no free trade unions are allowed. The Norway rally protests the jailing of a woman labor leader in Hungary. The parade in Denmark, and Maypole dances in the Netherlands. Hundreds of thousands of well-organized workers celebrate in West Germany, while in West Berlin a half million hear, among others, the American CIO representative in Europe, Victor Reuther. Theodore Koerner, president of the Austrian union, addresses a rally in Vienna's Ringstrasse. In Italy, CISL President Pastore challenges the Communist-led unions of the nation. 1951.
