Description: Silent, b&w, 9+ min. Holland (The Netherlands), July 1951: Having arrived by airliner "Albert Cuyp" in Schiphol (Airport), Amsterdam, Mr. Brannan is met by Charles P. Fossum, Food and Agriculture Officer of ECA Holland, and representatives of the American Embassy and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. A quick trip is made to Pieter Kistemaker's 122-acre farm, "Vrede-best," at Hoofddorp, in the Haarlemmermeerpolder. At lunch at the American Ambassador's residence, he meets his Dutch colleague (not named) and Dutch Foreign Minister Dirk Stikker, as well as Clarence Hunter, chief of ECA Holland/Netherlands. Minister Mansholt joins the group and they go on to the Belgian border, stopping for a half-hour visit to Cornelis Kemps' 26-acre farm at Oirschot, in southeast Brabant. Mr. Kemps' farm has achieved better-than-average results during the past few years by more efficient soil cultivation. Dr. Hendrik Frankena, who inspects crops for food problems, explains the growth with "surveyable statistics." American Embassy staff escort Mr. Brannan to Brussels. NB: Although there is no narration or dialogue, this bit of footage may be useful for identifying people and places. See "NEWSREELS(?) (series)" for more information. NARA ref. copy: VT.
