Description: Sound (Portuguese), b&w, 14 min. A useful, if sketchy, review of the events that led to the establishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. At the end of World War II, the Americans went home and the West European nations quickly demobilized their troops. But not so the USSR. Its troops remained to dominate Eastern Europe. Faced with that, and with Stalin's continued threats, the West organized NATO to ward off aggression and maintain peace. Generals Eisenhower, Juan (France), and Montgomery are shown organizing and building up the NATO forces with the help of America's Mutual Defense Assistance Program. 1952.
