Description: Sound (English), b&w, 15 min. 16mm (1R), 800'. A report to the English people in January 1951 as Britain marks the official end of Marshall Plan assistance. Hugh Gaitskill and Anthony Eden express the country's thanks to America on camera. Britain's recovery rests on American help and the efforts of the British people themselves, observes the American actor Jackie Cooper. Back in 1948, Britain's foreign reserves were gone, its mines, factories and power plants run down, depleted by the war effort. "Now," says Sir Stafford Cripps, "we are entering a new phase of our relationship with America. Together we must build our strength to counter the threat of new totalitarian aggression and defend our way of life". The US Air Force and the RAF are shown working side by side. 1951. Produced by Associated British Pathe, London, for ECA U.K.
