Description: Sound (Dutch), b&w, 19+ min. Winner of first prize at the 1951 Cannes Film Festival, this is a beautifully-filmed and excitingly-edited account of a Dutch trawler's annual voyage to the North Sea's Dogger Bank. There, the trawlers of a half dozen nations compete for the herring catch. Yet, in the face of dangerous seas, threatening weather and unforeseeable emergencies, the watchword of the fisherman is not competition, but cooperation. By implication, can the nations of Europe do any less? 1951. Produced, directed and edited by Herman van der Horst, Haarlem, Netherlands, for ECA Netherlands.
