Description: Sound (English), b&w, 12+ min. The narrator, Frank Gervasi, head of the Information Division of the ECA Italy, appears before the camera to describe the severe storms and flooding of the Po river in 1953 that have devastated northern Italy; thousands are homeless and many farms ruined. Footage shows flooded countryside, farms, and villages. International cooperation and Marshall Plan aid bring at least some relief. Livestock is moved out. People living in the streets and in temporary huts eat food collected in large cities. Planes from many countries bring in supplies. British, French, and U.S. troops build temporary bridges and ferry people out of the area. Flood victims attend an outdoor church service. NB: No production information or date available, even on the film itself. Although not mentioned in any known catalogue of MP films, it was very probably created either by or for the Information Division of ECA Italy. NARA ref. copy: PPC 35mm, 2R.
