Touching on the Roman history of the valley of the Rhone, the film shows how Provence conserves its past: pasturing sheep, making olive oil by hand, guarding the spiritual breath of the past in the poetry of Mistral. The new importance of France's great Rhone River: huge dams and power plants built with Marshall Plan help now harness the river's energy to supply power to France and her neighbors. The film won the 1951 Prix International at the Venice Biennale (Section Technique et Travail). 1950. With commentary by Claude Lemaine and Robert Scipion, music by Tony Aubin, speaker Rene Lefevre, editor Pierre Jallaud. Production by Claude Roger Clert and Francois Villiers. Produced by Les Films Caravelle for ECA France and the Government of France.
